Narrator: Part one. You will hear a woman phoning a shop to order some items. First you have some time to look at questions one to seven.
Narrator: Now listen carefully and answer questions one to seven.
Store Clerk: Good morning. New City Fashion Store. Can I help you?
Customer: Yes, please. I want to order some shoes. I've bought clothes from you before.
Store Clerk: Can I have your name?
Customer: It's Mrs. Cynthia Updike.
Store Clerk: Thanks. And can I have the first line of your address?
Customer: It's Number 40 Shreveport Road, that's spelled S-H-R-E-V-E-P-O-R-T, here in Richmond.
Store Clerk: Thanks. I'll look that up on our system.
Store Clerk: Yes, I've got all your information, including your credit card details, so that'll make it easy to complete your order. And now, your account number with our company is 40-20-11-3. I'll put that on the form.
Customer: I got an email from you about a special sales promotion you were having.
Store Clerk: Do you remember what month that was? We actually have a different promotion every few months.
Customer: I'm sure it wasn't September. It was in October, just a few days ago.
Store Clerk: Fine. That promotion's still going on. Now, do you have a promotion code from that email? It's four letters.
Customer: Yes. I actually wrote it down. It's PVTW.
Store Clerk: Got it. Thanks. Now, what style of shoe are you interested in?
Customer: What I really liked the look of were the shoes that your email catalog listed as boat shoes. I had some a long time ago and they were great on the beach or anywhere around water, not just for sailing.
Store Clerk: Yes, those are very popular. Everybody loves them. And what material are you interested in? Our latest ones come in plastic and canvas. But of course, they do come in leather too. That's the standard material. We always have a big stock of those.
Customer: Uh, yes, those are the ones I want.
Store Clerk: Now, what size do you take? The shoes you're ordering do tend to be a little tight-fitting.
Customer: Maybe to be on the safe side, I'll order a size nine. If they don't fit, I can always send them back, right?
Store Clerk: Of course you can. That's always our policy. And the color? We've got a wide range in addition to the usual brown or white.
Customer: What about pink?
Store Clerk: Let me check. Sorry, we don't have pink in your size, but we've got a lovely purple. It's very fashionable.
Customer: That sounds great. How much are they?
Store Clerk: $85.
Narrator: Before you hear the rest of the conversation, you have some time to look at questions eight to 10.
Narrator: Now listen and answer questions eight to 10.
Store Clerk: Now, are there any clothes you might be interested in today? We've got some great T-shirts in the sales promotion.
Customer: I've got plenty of those, but I do need a skirt for when the weather gets warmer. I'm sure I saw one I liked in the promotion.
Store Clerk: Yes, we just have one style, but it's very popular, and it comes in three sizes, small, medium, and large.
Customer: Well, I think I'll need medium. Small wouldn't work, I'm afraid.
Store Clerk: Fine, they're $38. Is that okay?
Customer: Yes.
Store Clerk: Do you need anything else today?
Customer: No, thanks. That's all for now.
Store Clerk: Since your total order comes to more than $100, we'll send you a gift free of charge. You have a choice of a box of Belgian chocolates-
Customer: [laughs] That sounds wonderful, but my husband and I are both on a diet, so maybe not
Store Clerk: ... or a special edition of a magazine about the history of fashion.
Customer: That would be perfect. I love to read and I also love fashion, and it won't hurt our diets. [laughs]
Store Clerk: Okay. We'll send that out with your order. Now, I'll need to arrange delivery of your items. I assume you want them delivered to your home address?
Customer: Please.
Store Clerk: We do have a fast service, which we call our super delivery method.
Customer: No, the delivery method you call regular is fine for me.
Store Clerk: Okay, I've got that. You should get everything within three working days, so it's actually pretty good. But if you happen to be out when we try to make the delivery...
Narrator: That is the end of part one. You now have one minute to check your answers to part one.
